Tulsa, OK. (February 28, 2017) - The 2nd half of the USA Rugby D2 Red River Rugby Conference cup season kicked off for the Tulsa RFC Men on Saturday in Ft. Worth.  The match got off to a blistering start for Tulsa as winger, Dillon Kreiling scored two tries in the first 10 minutes and was denied his third after losing control of the ball while touching it down underneath the posts. For shame, Dillon!

Open side flanker, Evan Nichols was able to make up for Kreiling's blunder at the 20th minute when he burst through Ft. Worth's defense for a 5 pointer of his own. Brett Stremme, playing fullback this week, his third position of the season, was true with the conversion stretching the Tulsa lead to 22-0. Fort Worth answered back with a penalty kick and a converted try of their own to bring the game to 22-10.
Not to be outdone by his back row partner, blindside flanker, Dakota WIlkinson touched down in the corner for his third try of the season. The first half closed 27-10 following a penalty kick from Stremme.

The second half was a different story as Tulsa lost all momentum and could only muster two penalty kicks from the boot of Stremme. Tulsa winger, Rob Fraser was baited into a slap fight from crafty Ft. Worth flyhalf, Jacobus Smit. Smit was unhappy with being tackled by a wing and let Fraser know about it with an open hand slap to the face! Fraser let his emotions get the better and struck Smit, causing Smit to flop to the deck in a transparent attempt to draw a card. Smit's theatrics worked, and Fraser was shown the red card, forcing Tulsa to play the remaining 30 minutes at a man disadvantage.  Ft. Worth was able to capitalize on the advantage and scored two tries to make it a game late in the 2nd half. However, Brett Stremme capped off the scoring for Tulsa in the second half with a penalty kick to make the final 33-20.

Tulsa has a week off to recover before they start a 3 week home stretch against DARC on March 11th, Kansas City RFC on March 18th, and OKC on March 25th at Mohawk Sports Complex as part of the Hooligan Rugby Tournament.
